The parking scenario may be a little extreme.
If Joe Blow the tourist stops to show his kids your corn cobs in your field, then someone comes along and hits his car, that guy is going to sue you because it's your field.?
I think not. Not the same deal. In the above post, the farmer gave Chippies guys permission to park there and tromp around in his field. Had he not done that, he would have no liability for what occurred on the road. Here in Iowa, you own to the center of the roadway. You can (and in this case will be) be sued for anything, anytime, for any amount. Be much easier and less costly to not have to defend yourself by simply not inviting potential trouble. |
