South Central MN | I think it is already pricing customers out of buying beef to some extent. If I really had to wager a guess I would say that prices could stay up, but I don't see them getting too much higher. Walk by the meat department at the nearest Walmart and look at the price of a chub of ground beef. If you were living paycheck to paycheck would you buy it? I know I would be looking at the price per pound and targeting the cheapest without dipping into the 73/27 territory.
Now keep in mind in my circumstance I also have chickens on the farm, and we hatched out a few incubators worth early. With chickens you get a pile of extra roosters and some end up in the fridge/freezer/canned in a mason jar. But for most people meat will become meat and they will shift to cheaper alternatives for a lot of things. | |
