I know I'm dialing back. No seed treatment for beans, cut pk rates, skip soybean fungicide but your probably right. They'll just keep raising prices and make the same amount of money.

hmmm

haven't done seed treatiment since the University Of Nebraska said it wasn't worth doing 9 out of 10 times unless you plant early April (like 15 years ago)

Never sprayed on a soybean fungicide

instead have always put that money into fertility

now I can cut pk rates and not materially affect yield for a few years

Your comments almost mirror mine. Im a big snake oil guy. I'll try almost anything if the science/logic makes sense to me. 98% of those product have not worked or had a roi. Im just amazed at the number of guys here that refuse to believe in research or even science. I can't believe the amount of guys who won't believe university research. "Fake news". "They're being paid off ", etc. etc.
I have a lot of involvement with university researchers. I know how they were funded and I know how their data was collected. It is was it is. They throw their data out there and it's for farmers to use. Use it any way you want. Getting back to your post. Only insecticide on seed has helped (i have had wire worm problems in the past). No other seed treatment has done anything for me. I can't believe the number of farmers that dump fungicide out there like water. Almost nobody knows why they are applying it. I understand that this is a regional issue. I dont even know what southern rust is let alone spray for it. I can't believe the number of guys who are spraying a fungicide on corn twice. Also can't understand spraying soys with a fungicide and an insecticide. I guess if you have a problem (an identifiable fungus that is yield limiting, or insects past threshold), but most of the guys i talk to in my neighborhood have no idea what they are trying to kill. Yet in 2 months they will be bitching about green stems. As far as I'm concerned, I'm not spraying anything that isn't affecting my yield. Most of the fungus out there have been out there since the beginning of soil. Every time I kill something, something else worse takes it's place. Fungicide manufacturers have the best marketing program I've ever seen. Innoculants and seed treatment a close second. Can't believe guys will cut back on fertility but go back out there with a fungicide and spray some more. Sorry for blabbing.
