Subject: Crud.. I sold too much 2025 Corn.. should I cover?

With Tariff man elected.. and I was going to plant double crop sorghum.. so I got aggressive last winter with contracts.. doing a lot of accumulators.. which some doubled up in January..

With the canceling of USAID.. leaving a Coop a county over and others.. holding the bag on a million bushel contract which went “poof.”  Leading to the sorghum basis collapse.. leading to ethanol switching to Sorghum.. leading to the Corn basis collapse.

https://www.cjonline.com/story/news/politics/government/2025/02/09/what-does-usaid-food-for-peace-shutdown-mean-for-kansas-sorghum-crop/78300587007/

plus fertilizer spiking.. I nixed the sorghum crop.. flip side some of my accumulators.. (note to self.. DONT EVER use accumulators again) got knocked out.. which.. turns out to have been a semi somewhat good thing as I won’t have the bushels anyway.

I normally fill storage.. but have enough harvest delivery.. that now I probably won’t fill my on farm.. unless it’s really good.  25% spare space plus more if needed..

We’ve had rain..  and there are alot of dryland acres out there.. some is being harvested now.. kind of burnt up.. 115.. 120 bushel as earlage.  Our irrigated.. has drown out.. and with the break in prices.. we skipped some of the extra things we did last year.. in season K.. as well as grain fill pass of N.. Furthermore, since this was supposed to be the big dry.. we’ve lowered populations about 5%

Last years irrigated rocked 235.. I’m preparing for 200.. but maybe it’ll be better.. even though less inputs.  Nice ears.. just not enough of them.. golly who knew?

So should I cover at these lower prices.. or wait for more pain?

Even though I’m well covered.. it’s at lower prices than 24s and I do expect lower irrigated (which is the bulk) of my corn production.  Plus basis is lower.. so basically breakevens.. “golly wasn’t that fun?”

My son who lost his export job.. found another at a large Ks Coop.. and they are well booked.. in preparation for the harvest glut.. aka sold cash homes.. to buy farmer purging at harvest.. so..

we’re ready for y’all to puke it to us.

along with the short funds..

should we be worried?   In the grand scheme it’s not a lot.. maybe 25%.. but I’m probably not alone.  The feedlots aren’t full.. but they are feeding less cattle to heavier weights.. so corn usage is probably down a bit.

Reports of a lot of give up panic cash sales last week.. local bought a million bushels of new crop from producers in a day.

So some signs of bottoming action.. hold out for $3.20?

”beatings will continue until moral improves.”

golly maybe I should have planted more wheat?

New Crop Sorghum bid was under $3.00 yesterday.. Golly who needs USAID anyway?
