coast of Maine | Oldtiger,there are several places that get promoted so much they become"dont go there" to many.It is usually dead in these areas or places in the off season,,then they become ok if still open,many places close in the winter.The coastal areas beyond Acadia is well worth exploring if you want peaceful places.If you like naval ships visit Bath.There is Bath Iron Works,Im not sure on tours but you can see a lot from the bridges.There is a museum there.Also down that peninsula is Popham Beach,nice place to walk on the oceans edge.There is a super tiny (12 sets) restaurant on the way down"Winnegance"its way oldschool.Dont tell anyone.Up the coast there are some great spots down in Bristol,Pemaquid light gets wicked busy .In Boothbay Harbor(touristy as heck) there is a clam bake tour boat that takes 50 odd people out to an island,,super food,,super crew,,I thought it would suck as crowded and a bit costly,but a good time "Cabbage Island Lobster Bake"entertaining as heck watching the ones from away.Further up the coast Knox county,where we are visit "Beths" we will meet and chat.Rockport harbor is pretty.Rockland has the Breakwater.There are several light houses that are quieter to visit here.The Windjammers are mostly here,book a trip,very very neat.If going downeast to Bar harbor beware its can be nuts with crowds.There is the Big Chicken Barn,,on the way there outside Ellsworth,,go there when it is thick a fog or raining.I can go on and on but stop by ,,or I may post more ideas later,Skip Reds East,,skip Down town Portland its like Portland OR,bums and beggars. | |
