Subject: RE: Price it out - freezer beef

Ross County, Ohio
I just sold 5 Heifers that yielded an average weight of 746 hanging weight to a few of my closest friends for $3.50/lb plus processing in which they pay. The actual hanging weight price around here was 3.86. I'm charging my close friends that. I felt bad at the $3.50, but they all jumped on it. All of them told me, "you gotta make something and I'm not buying that garbage from the store." One said," it's still cheap. This is top of the line beef. Have you priced beef in the store lately?" I had not for about a decade. I almost hit the floor when I did a few days later. Sirloin $21.99 lb, on sale. Burger $6.99 lb on sale. you can get really cheap grade burger for 4.99, but you have nothing. They mix it 50/50 by weight with ice, so you're actually paying $10 for the meat.
