Rye would work ok... I'm just not a fan of it period... Dosen't winter kill so you have a cost terminating it... Let it go long enough in spring for roots to acually do something and then the excessive canopy seems to be a yeild drag on corn and soybeans here... more times then not... Radishes and Turnips seeded early here winter kill and get 12+ inches deep with enough leaf mass to hold soil...
