Idaho | When the drill bit moves to the side when starting a hole there are two things.
1. A good center punch and hammer.
2, The bit is not sharpened properly. The center point of the bit is not in the center of the bit. Put another way, one cutting edge is longer than the other. Hold the bit up and look at the web (center of the bit) and one can see that the point is not in the center of the web. Intentionally sharpen a bit so it is offcenter too one side. Hold it up and observe and compare to a new larger bit. Then slowly grind and move it to the center. Have fine grit stone with a flat face specifcally for bits and keep the neanderthalls in the shop from using it. The fine stone makes a better cutting edge and limits over zelas mistakes. It is about training the eye to see what is needed and implementing it. Just like landing on a carrier. Do not have to be lucky. Be good. | |
