East Central, Nebraska | around here we spread turnips and radishes after we destroy male seed corn rows. it gets spread with basically an atv spreader on the back of the male row destroyer. it works extremely well. starts good where the male rows got destroyed then when the seed corn is harvested it all takes off. so i would say it works well. big difference may be though is we run pivots around a few more times before it gets harvested and i am certain that helps a lot.
i believe i have had better luck with turnips and radishes then i have had with rye. the rye seems to always come up but the success of the seeding is always based on amount of moisture. we were dry last year and we spread in the fall after silage and thought it was a complete loss as it was pretty dry. ended up with a decent stand about the time it needed destroyed.
point being, in my experience i have better luck with turnips and radishes then i have had with rye spreading on top and leaving it. | |
