The pulley just rides on bronze bearings as it only need to spin on the crankshaft when the clutch is disengaged. If you look at old two cylinder tractors, sometimes you find you can grab the belt pulley and lift it up and down and it feels sloppy on the crankshaft. Those are the tractors that were left to run with out the clutch engaged in neutral.
