Mid-Michigan
I think id stick with what you are doing. I plant wheat screening from cleaning wheat, vetch and radishes, but this is after wheat. I fit it all up after 8,000 gallons of dairy manure. I pick stones, spread lime (if needed), deep rip the headlands. I apply the cover crop with potash as my carrier with a spinner. then lightly run over it with a field cultivator. I will then kill it in the spring and what I call no tilling into it with soybeans. It works very good for me. I have limited help and tractors. While im doing this, I have a guy spreading corn fertilizer and getting corn ground ready. I wont plant another soybean until im done with corn, but the 200 acres i can get done while the corn ground is getting prepared is a big help for mostly a one man operation. Very good soybean results, (yield wise) doing this. I am very anal about compaction. I don't care what my neighbors are doing, Im not going out there in the mud. All my ground is tiled and dries about almost at the same time. Doing this i can keep two tractors running (and doing something constructive). But, this is all after wheat. My covercrop will be planted in the next two weeks. For you after soybeans, its limited.
