Here , west Ky , you better be killing the rye earlier than later , 4 foot rye is going to suck all n out of the top 6-10 inches of soil profile . We were 100% rye cover for several years . Figured pretty early on to apply , 100 units of urea , upfront , no tilling corn into rye , 20 inches tall , green and growing. Chase the planter with a burn down , worked really nice .
