Sharpening bits by hand takes good light, good eyesight and patience and most of all, GOOD PERCEPTION of the angle of keenness and relief that needs to be in a round object to make it work!

Drill doctor is hit and miss for me. But it at least gets the shape close to right so I can take it to the grinder and TRY TO put a real edge on it.
Cobalt and carbide shine for drilling in delicate situations.. But for the most part I'm not one to throw the Biggers ones until they are burned up. The smaller cheaper bits go straight to the scrap when they are used up unless I don't have a replacement on hand.
