Central ND
I hadn't been around the 2 cylinders since I was maybe 13 years old, but we always also put the tractor out of gear and ran the pulley. I don't remember about bearings being starved for oil but it is very possible. I do remember the clutch discs wear on the splines from the engine vibration and harmonics so you took it out of gear and engaged the clutch. and faces of the clutch discs wear from floating in the clutch but done when you engage the clutch.
