Subject: RE: Alfalfa / autotoxicity

North Dakota
I heard one person tell me that running cows on alfalfa may cause the killing of some plants because of the damage they cause to the crown.

As of yet I cannot completely dismiss his theory but in the future I will be running cows on some of my alfalfa ground and will have a better idea on that subject.
This has to be done carefully because of the bloating possibility. I am strongly inclined to believe that bloating happens from it happening to some really credible people I personally know.
I think though that it can be done if they are rotated off of it when it rains??

Grazing alfalfa with the neighbors cows will eliminate the loss if such an experiment should fail.........what.....wait.....did I just say that out loud??

As for now I am inclined to assign less function as you do because occasionally making it black with a disk is working so far for me.
That practice will too become a little clearer to me for I will disk / land roll the same 4 rounds on 1/2 mile field starting for the 1st time just this last spring.

Time will tell & thank you for your input.
