Southwestern Indiana | August 1, 2016 we looked like we had a monster crop coming. We had plenty of moisture all summer and temps were higher than normal for a lot of the summer. We ended up getting over 6 more inches of rain in August and southern rust blew up. Tar spot wasn't even heard of yet. Our early corn was 20 bpa under aph and late corn was 30-50 bpa under aph. Easily was our worst crop in the last 15 years other than 2012. Point of this is, while things look pretty good now over a lot of the midwest, a lot can happen in the next 4-5 weeks that can silently take a lot of bushels especially if you've never had southern rust come in early. | |
