I really think you need to experience driving a Tesla. Even though some are capable of impressive acceleration, it is very hard to coax one into "breaking free" as you call it.
The best part is; test drives are available at no charge at the Tesla showrooms and most Tesla owners, me included, would be happy to ride and drive with you as you see what an electric car brings to the driving experience.

I do not care about acceleration. I do not see why it is a selling point outside of track cars.

I also am not retired and do not wish to turn a long day trip into a week long ordeal.

I do not see the point in an electric only car, unless I can pick it up with my two hands.

All traction control has ever done is put me in the ditch due to the incompetence of vehicle manufacturers. They figured out ABS-for the most part- then decided to go nuts on everything else and forgot they actually have to make these systems work. Considering they can't make it work on a three to four thousand pound car, I have little faith in a car weighing twice as much, not to mention an electric vehicle is more likely to go under a guard rail as well, defeating the last line of emergency safety devices.

Also, I'm pretty sure "go to Minneapolis" is an insult at this point.
