coast of Maine
Dan,the farmers in California have the best weather of almost anywhere in the world. The central valley is amazing. Some newer varieties are great shippers as well.I usually cannot compete with prices say in a big box store where much is obtained in Mexico etc.But with the correct control of quality I can offer a way better tasting product at Beths.I also can assure our customers that the wage rate my employees receive is great.Much of the produce in the chains is picked at 1$ hour in a foreign land.I also can assure them that we care about what we sell.I know there are other "roadsiders "that do not follow correct marketing controls. On sizing,,we offer all grades ,as in a crap weather area sizing varies a lot,, we do not just sell select sizes like the buyers at chains demand from growers.i have tried some chain produce thats also been great tasting,,rare but some are.Argentina's raspberries are amazing in the winter,,,but they have a vey arid micro climate that precludes mold and winter injury,,and cheap labor to pick.at 8$ an hour. They are also one of the few whom care about what they export ,a clean decent ag system there..In other countries who knows..Stop by sometime..
