Think of where peaches grow best by volume: California, Georgia, Chambersburg, Pa. Potatoes: Idaho, Washington State, Maine….
Also, local producers may have certain diseases, bugs, weeds that add to their growing difficulties, AND, incomplete understanding of how to grow certain crops. Nobody knows everything: those that specialize get very good at what they focus on. Locals likely are trying to do many things-all of which are short-changed by incomplete focus. | |
