We have a 2020 Subaru Ascent and were in a situation recently where someone pulled out of a cross road just in front of me. I hit the brakes but the automatic braking probably came on faster than I did. Stopped me about a foot from the drivers side door of this other vehicle. The system saved a major accident. 

With the Subaru system I have been amazed how it has been able to tell the difference between cars in the next lane or signs on a curve.
