Please realize that when you are behind the wheel of a car in motion, you aren't a helpless lump and you should try not to be a victim. When the car phantom brakes, all you need to do is get on the juice pedal just a bit and the braking goes away. I take precautions of leaving extra space behind me as I change lanes after passing and sit ready to cancel the phantom braking by pressing the juice pedal. 



I'm not sure I want to take a long trip in which I'm hovering over the gas just in case the brake decides to flake out on me and potentially get rear-ended. Not particularly enjoyable or comfortable way to travel. I'll just leave that adaptive cruise off and operate on normal cruise.
