I had a Red Delicious tree in my backyard, and those apples were very good-if you waited long enough, until they were actually ripe. They would look ready a month or 6 weeks before they were.

Unfortunately I wasn't careful enough around it with the lawnmower, scarred the bark enough times that the tree got diseased and died.
