Subject: Food prices

Pittsburg, Kansas
Fast food in this example.

Earlier this year we flew into Switzerland and I was kind of aghast at paying over fifty dollars at a domestic hamburger chain in the airport. Two people for lunch.

As a comparison we are now in Chicago airport and at McDonald's a similar meal was about 30. A double quarter pound cheeseburger, a triple quarter pound cheeseburger, a large ice coffee and large ice tea. The drinks in Switzerland were MUCH smaller and I don't think we got quite as much meat there.

In our travels I have found, compared to many other places in the world, food in the United States is pretty darn reasonable.

I am as likely as anybody to flinch at the food prices if I have the unfortunate duty of grocery shopping. But the reality is compared to much of the world our food is cheap in relation to wages. At least the food I prefer to eat.
