I know our county gets to keep a few percent of the profits from the casino to be doled out by a committee whose members are not allowed to gamble in this company's casinos. Surrounding contiguous counties get a small percentage of our percentage. Ours amounts to a few million dollars. People rave about how much they give back to the community without thinking about the TENS of millions of dollars they remove. There might be a reason small businesses are struggling to stay alive in our county. Because far too many go out and drop a hundy or more in their spare time trying to win a few thousand in payouts.
I have no problem with casinos, but I rarely go. I understand that those tens of millions in casino profits have to come from somewhere. | |
