ND | dogg4585 - 7/26/2025 10:35 Met with a builder couple times over a 6 month period, never signed anything or committed to anything. He did draw a preliminary floorplan and some elevation drawings that he rendered from our architet's drawings. We decided he was not right for our project and moved on to another one. Few months later he sends an invoice for almost $5000! I want to pay him for his time but this is 5-10x what I expected. What should I do? Figured I'd send him a grand with a respectful note explaining i thought his bill was out of line. Edit to add-the architect did far more work on this than the builder did and he only billed us $1000.
You should meet with the man face to face and discuss it, communicate. You surely would not pay him anything until that is done. Somebody mentioned mechanics lien, that is when you have a truck in the shop, not for something like this. |
