Manola,Ab, Ca | Our RV came back from the last rental and I noticed that four of the five roof markers lights weren’t working. I have had issues before and I thought it was moisture related. I put off looking at them until last night (Friday) and of course I couldn’t get them working. I determined that I had power to them and decided that it was the fixture. Of course they are LED and are not a replaceable bulb. There was a chance of rain last night so I didn’t want to leave an open hole so I put the light back on.
I got up this morning and removed a light and headed off to the local automotive parts store, figuring I could get a replacement fixture that would work. Of course nothing similar was available and they didn’t have any water tight options with ordering something in.
I call the RV dealer an hour away and he thinks he has two in stock at $35 a piece. Well dang, this isn’t going well and the RV is scheduled to go out on a month long rental this afternoon. I head to the other store in town on the off chance they might have something. Looking at their display I see some clear LED pencil lights for $9 a light. I decide I can make this work.
I get home and I get an appropriate drill bit and drill a hole through the old light and insert the pencil light, splice the wires together and place the amber lens back in place and I now have working lights. They aren’t quite as bright but I don’t think the law will bother with it.
Sometimes it pays to be able to think outside the box!!!
