Seems to be a disconnect in farm management in different regions, and it could very well be the cash rent and land ownership costs. Down here, as long as you are a pretty prudent manager, we can live ok during the crop insurance years and then long for those years where we raise twice our aph to actually prosper. We don't expect to prosper most years and so what we are willing to pay for things reflects that. We aren't usually living on crop insurance either. We just have many years where we just barely beat the level that would incur a claim. Brand new machinery is hardly ever in the cards for most, the good used machinery usually get shipped down here from the north where they don't have room to keep the used stuff on the dealer lots.
