mercer county, il | Thanks Paul. I was struggling to a decent response.
Grandpas family lost everything in the depression, his parents lived in a little house on on of my great uncles farm until they died, never would deal with a bank again.
He farmed with horses still, my grandma ran the tractor that came with her when they got married most of the time.
He saw all the FLB/FCS games played in the 80s and finally retired in the late 80s.
He was always financially conservative, as am I. I think his point was more if you manage your risk, and don’t stick your neck out too far, and make conservative decisions, you should be OK. He also taught me that if you can contract grain for you COP, you need to start selling, better to sell some and be able to pay bills, than bet on the come and go broke.
I think his point was that there has been an overall lack of responsibility for actions, and quite a bit of using bankruptcy as just another financial tool. I wish I could ask him for clarification, along with a ton of other things I wish we’d have delved into deeper, but he’s gone on to a better place.
