Central Nebraska | While I agree with most of your post, I think unless there is a good way to actually hold those who burn irresponsibly liable it won't change much. I've also been there when there are so many burns going at the same time should more than one get away it'll be very hard to get enough help to bring it back under control. It becomes a resource management issue. By issuing permits, especially those for land clearing, we are able to do two things. The first is make sure there isn't an overabundance of fire on the ground at the same time and secondly make sure that those who are burning have an adequate plan and resources. Keep in mind the best times burn are also the best conditions for other fires to start as well. A thousand acre controlled burn here and two more over there on top of a regular new start spell disaster for local resources both fire department and burn crews alike. I respect the fact that some people go above and beyond to burn safety and correctly but for every one of those there are two or three that do it the wrong way. | |
