When the Pennsylvania Turnpike (America's first interstate highway) was built, several farms that were divided had it written into the land sale that they had the right to stop traffic between certain hours to move cattle across the road.  The Turnpike Commission later bought out those agreements by building underpasses for them to move cattle through.
