Windom, MN | I recently purchased a 2014 caseIH 8230 with a Pro700 and 372 receiver. I don’t have the combine yet but will have it soon. So I’m looking for a little help as to how to use the technology…as I’m coming from a 30 year old 2166 with the old AFS yield monitor that didn’t use maps.
Currently corn is planted by a John Deere with John Deere technology…I believe it’s the newest version of their product as the tractor is a 2023 and the planter is a 2024 and he got new globes and monitors when he traded. Currently the neighbor gets the information from the planter, converts it, and puts it in an S780. Then he uses to combine for me too and I would get maps. Since I will be combining my own corn now, I’m wondering if there is a way to take the planting information from the John Deere, convert it, and load it in my system?
Soybeans I’ve always planted on my own with no real technology. It’s an old 1780 with the computrac 250 monitor, so no hybrid information other than what I write down. Is there a way to map this on the go? Like put a hybrid in and when I get to the next one switch?
Going forward is there a way to make maps planting without having the planter hooked to a pro700? I have one in the planter tractor so theoretically I could put hybrids in as I plant and change them when I need to, but not sure if that would work or not since the planter isn’t hooked to the pro700.
I’m all new to this planting and harvest mapping stuff, don’t farm a ton of acres (<1000), but do like the data and use it for management decisions so am looking for guidance on programs I will need and how to do all of this.
