S Illinois | Unknown is not “China” buying in that situation. Import companies will front run and line up cargos for demand they think is there or will be in the future. So they may know that there is 20 boatloads of demand in SE Asia in say Oct. 15 maybe China and then 5 are other countries. So an import company may buy 10 cargoes at a favorable rate. Then when demand shows up they may send 8 to China and 2 to other countries.
What I am saying is you won’t see China split buy half cargoes and spread them across delivery years. That’s especially true with corn. Now a a boatload may eventually find its way to China if the numbers work. But a sale like that doesn’t fit their buying habits if it was all destined directly for China. | |
