mercer county, il
I’m not saying you’re wrong, in fact I hope you’re not, but the problem we are facing, we’re simply pricing ourselves off tables in the beef market.

As more consumers turn to chicken and pork, eating habits change, and more “family favorites” become dishes with chicken pork and fish.

Now mind you, my neck of the woods isn’t big cattle country by any stretch of the imagination, but the last couple years have really kinda made me see where beef demand is headed. The most shocking thing? My middle boys Health teacher told them beef is “unhealthy” and I was the only parent that made an issue. Same sons girlfriend had never eaten steak, not like doesn’t like it, literally never been on the table in front of her. And how often is beef even a choice at ball games and fairs? And if it is, a ribeye sandwich is $12, vs $5-6 for a pork chop sandwich.

Corn and soybeans are staples. Yes, we can do with less, but ultimately they’re in so many things, it’s hard to escape. Whereas beef is more of a luxury item to most households, so it’s a bit more fickle as a “commodity”.

On a brighter note though, as veg oils health issues become apparent, getting the beef fat market back would be a win.
