mercer county, il | I think $4 is a reasonable price, the side benefit is, not quite as many neighbors running around trying to rent farms out from under you.
And yes, Inputs are kinda outta whack with $4, but a lot of those inputs are out of whack because of a want, not a need. I mean if your aunt had look at some easily available figures, the average farmer has more $$ in machinery expenses than having it custom farmed would cost.
I think there’s going to be more pain to come. Especially in the cattle market when it corrects. There’s a workable margin in $4 corn, with an affordable safety net. By the time you buy a $2k feeder calf, the insurance pretty much wipes out the profit. But not having any coverage if we have a black swan could wipe out years of profits. | |
