Seems like a lot of hope for ag is getting put on making trade deals by a guy picking fights. I personally don’t think that’s how deals work, at least they don’t for me.
Old crop corn basis is half way decent, -10 locally, but new crop will be a bin buster, locally.
Can we sell it all? Will it take less acres or a weather event in north or South America to get to a reasonable price level?
Is $4 corn a reasonable level? Maybe our inputs are just too high and corn is at a reasonable price level.
Locked in some anhydrous today for $795. Ran soil tests on all fields this spring. Will not be buying any p or k. Just focus the manure spreader on the worst fields. Always use to throw out a little extra p and k for good measure but those days are gone.
Personally I’m in the camp that $4 is a reasonable price but it’s the inputs that are out of wack. Local jd shop has 18 late model 9000 series tractors for sale. I think the MUD deals will be a little less generous next year.
I agree a tiny bit. But we undervalued access to our markets for decades and over looked the protectionism of the countries with access to our markets. It kinda is something to be pissed off about. And trump being the wild card he is can disrupt their trade a bunch while slightly disrupting ours. I don't think anyone knows what the medium to long game is going to look like. I say we take a chill pill and see what happens for awhile. There are so many wins on the more important things that I'll let my finances be what it will be for now. I don't vote by my billfold, I guess I shouldn't whine when the things I really care about are getting done, no matter what it is doing to my finances. |
