You would think our checkoffs could do better. How about dispelling the common perception that ethanol is dangerous to your car's fuel system. How about something about bypassing the higher priced fuel nozzle for the cheaper and better alternative. We don't need anymore pat a farmer on the back campaigns. Anybody worth their salt is farming to make money and we shouldn't be looking for sympathy from anyone or handouts from anybody.
Judging from the amount of farmers who still believe that ethanol can't be run in small engines or left in them for yearly storage, I would assume there are a lot of non farmers in the checkoff marketing department that actually feel that ethanol is bad.
The problem with that is when you get out of the corn belt, ethanol isn't really cheaper, here last I went to town it is only a handful of cents cheaper, so when you get out the calculator and calculate for mileage, its probably not cheaper per mile.
Now if the entire country had the fuel prices, normal and ethanol, as you down there, you'd have a very good argument for prices.
I'd still say they should be working on improving ethanol to fight the unwanted side effects of it, like its cleaning ability and what it does to fuel lines and gaskets. They improved Diesel to stop gelling and have made cheap solutions to cure the algae and water issues, I don't see why they can't come up with something to cure ethanol's unwanted side effects as well.
And a decent marketing campaign after that. The clean air people went and bought an EV, the people who care about energy independence already know we are, and now I have heard a few "support farmers" ads as well. |
