The CEO of Coke made the following statement today:
“This is really an ‘and’ strategy and not an ‘or’ strategy,” Quincey said, according to the Wall Street Journal. “We are going to continue to use a lot of the corn syrup that we do now.”
The drink maker’s Mexican Coke is made with cane sugar and already sold in the US – but often at nearly twice the price.
Additionally, the US doesn’t make enough cane sugar to satisfy demand in the country.
I looked up the price of Mexican Coke on Amazon vs. Coke in 12 ounce cans.....a case of 24 bottles of Mexican Coke
was $72 vs 24 cans of Coke sweetened with HFCS at $24
In the end this is a story about "margin expansion" for what they are calling a premium product.

Meanwhile I went down to Cenex and bought Mexican Coke for 2 for the price of one US.
Amazon means literally nothing. People usually don't do their grocery shopping on Amazon. If they do, I'm sure you can find a $30 bottle of ketchup.
