Northeast Missouri | Despite all the discussions/disagreements here about whether or not it will be a bumper crop, I don't think anyone will have a true handle on it until late in harvest or after. From early to mid harvest even the rumor of a huge crop hanging over the market will make for an extremely wide basis in areas with a crop that may look to be more grain than local and on-farm storage can handle. (It looks that way here, to me.)
Typical basis outside of harvest time at our best local corn market (45 miles away) is 10 to 30 cents under nearby futures. I'm expecting harvest basis of at least 60 to 80 cents under at local markets due to a combination of a lot more corn acres locally/regionally + excellent yields. Some corn may wait in the field to be harvested if we can't find a place to put it all initially.
