All farmers are individual entities. Where there are a handful of oil companies that can all cut production when prices are low, there are millions of wildly independent farmers that are all just trying to make their ends meet. If they can spend $20 and make $60 on each acre, why would they not? They proven over decades that they can't work together to cut supply. And even if they cut supply, S. America will just burn down a few million more acres of rain forest and pick up new business.
Not to mention the standability of corn sprayed with fungicide. Makes it easier to let it stand and dry in the field, thus saving even more money on the back end. | |
