Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | Interesting. I was aware that variety maps could be made by using the screen icon without any additional modules. For a perfect map, I felt that the screen Icon would need to be used on each Headland to avoid "painting over" the variety that was already planted there. Your experience seems to indicate that auto swath will realize this and not "paint over" those areas.
I have never tried this personally for actual planting since our planting is done with a planter that has modules involved with section control, fertilizer mapping and spray control. Those modules control those products and their associated maps.
I have used a modified form of that approach to mark tile lines. I create a fake planting configuration with a small fake planter. The planting configuration allows me to choose an unusual crop (peanuts for example). I name the varieties with descriptive tile names such as 4 inch, 8 inch, Main etc. The onscreen map shows these "lines" in different colors. I do need to use the screen Icon to start/stop each line and to change "varieties" as necessary.
But again as far as the OP is concerned an Auxiliary Input Module by itself will not accomplish his goals. It won't prevent him from doing what you have described but it would not be necessary or utilized.
When I worked as a Tech, I was asked if a module should be disconnected if it is not going to be used for a particular operation. This came about for a customer who used a Clutch Control Module and a Liquid Product Control module on his planter to plant and spray pre emerge on his corn. When he used this planter for soybeans he did not use the Liquid Product Control module. He was afraid that he would need to disconnect it while planting soybeans because it might cause some type of interference. The answer is No, it can remain connected. The presence of an unused or underused module does not generally cause any problems.
