Leesburg, Ohio | We have been using FBS farm accounting software since its beginning in the early 1980's, and have been very happy with it.
Started on our first Radio Shack TRSIII, moved to more modern machines through the years, and for the last 10 years or so, have been using it through our farm accountant's server.
I just learned from our farm accountant that the only way to upgrade to the current version of FBS (Now owned by "MASA") is to subscribe to their cloud server version at an exorbitant cost per year.
We use to pay $100/yr, then $300, recently about $1000'yr. The new cost will be about $3500/yr. Once we convert to the MASA cloud version, there is no provision to have continued access to our data in the future if we would then decide not to pay the $3500/yr fee...our data would held "hostage".
Our accountant will still offer the previous version on his server as long as they can keep it running, but MASA will not support even last year's version...no timeline to sunset, just no support at all, which I think is unreasonable.
How many users of FBS are there out there that are not happy with this current "take-over" of FBS?
What similar farm accounting software are you converting to?
Is it possible for a group of FBS long-time users to get together and negotiate a better solution with MASA??
I understand MASA is mostly a group of very large farm operations that bought out Norm Brown, the creator/owner of FBS. I have no problem with the new ownership as such, I just think their take-it-or-leave-it marketing practices are unreasonable. | |
