Subject: RE: Farm Pond Digging Qs

Western Oregon
I have dug a lot of small ponds for cattle water. Put gravity pipe to water trough. I just pushed out with D4 cat. I always smeared wet solid clay around and packed it in with the tracks. I built my pond here with a 706 and 3 yard scraper and smeared the clay around the bottom Depth goes from Beach to 10'. I have a small flat area that I planted wild rice in. I can control the depth of pond. I raise yellow perch in my greenhouse in 2'x4'x2' black Rubbermaid water tanks. I dug a "canal" to the pond where they can spawn in the gravel beds. Then catch and put in fish tanks. I have a solar water heater under greenhouse roof, 8' of 6" black sewer pipe. fed by gravity spring, 2 gal/hr into tanks. I have floating foam grow beds with pots and rock medium for garden vegetables. Also wall gutter system to grow strawberries fed from warm water overflow from fish tanks. The canal is fed from same spring to control water level in pond....James
