Subject: Re: Teeth questions ? Bridge vs. Implant ?

Southeast Colorado
I have three implants on my top front teeth because of a accident 5 years ago where I had a high pressure irrigation cap hit me in the mouth. I was told then, and it makes sense to me, that a bridge is just as good as an implant except when it comes to keeping the area clean after the fact. With all of that metal in your mouth going to the teeth to each side of the corrected tooth, it becomes an easy catch all for food and etc. and can deteriorate that area quickly. With implants all of that is hidden in your gums. I will tell you one downfall of implants but it would probably apply to a bridge also. They leave gaps between the fake teeth and real teeth and also between the teeth and your gums. This is to make sure that you can clean this area out easily. That may be true, but it also is a catch all for anything you eat. Maybe some people are already use to this but I wasn't. I try to keep a toothpick somewhere handy because I constantly am getting food hung up in those gaps and the toothpick is the only way to get it out. Also I can not even begin to bite into an apple anymore because it will wedge a sliver between my real tooth and implant and cause serious pain until I get the handy toothpick out and remove it. I'm not sure if any of what I've said will help but I wanted to throw it all out there anyway. Good luck!
