Subject: Farm Pond Digging Qs

EC IL
So far so good with my little farm pond and old Cat scraper pan despite some being negative nancies about it before I started.

Q1. How deep should i go? Im 7ft currently but not done by anymeans. 8ft average with some 12ft max on the bass pond forum seems to pop up a lot. Saw where there's oxygen issues with too deep? I know a guy who's pond is 27ft when the interstate dug it for an overpass. I'm not big into fishing...just want it healthy. Plan on some lillies and aquatic plants for some of it.

Q2. If I need to go deeper than 12ft I'm afraid I'll have to lose the island, which is already pushing it for a small pond but I wanted it for ducks to be on safely from coyotes. I could build a floating island. Plan to shrink the island some but was hoping to keep the land bridge under a few ft of water to walk across in waders.

Been doing slope readings. 3:1 is still very steep. I'd say I have the beach area like 6:1 and some 4:1 areas. Not sure I can do it all 3:1.

Back side still needs dug out more. Don't think it'll flood but if it does it'll just go into the field a little.
