Evidently people have short memories. I also recall all the hype every year at this time only to settle on a lower national yield in January than the initial USDA yield and well below all the summer hype that gets thrown at us.
Its funny isn't it. Everyone gets chastised for being a crop killer but the truth is that people have claimed its a record yield for seven years in a row and been wrong every time. What people haven't talked about that has been an issue is hot night time temps, likely aided in tassel wrap, and possible nitrogen issues from excess rain. Throw in the drought pockets and the likelihood of this being a record is nearing 0%. Could it be 179. Sure....but that's not 181
