| When my wife and I got out of college we worked real jobs before going back to farm. Rented a nice 2 bedroom apartment. 2 heated underground garage stalls, washer and dryer in unit, central air/heat. Rent was $820/month. Everyone thought we were crazy for not buying a house. I looked at the numbers and for the added property tax and services like garbage/water that were included in my rent we were up to just $600/month on just those for a plain jane house. Not including the interest and PMI. Adding interest and PMI to those we would be over the rent, and have a lot of extra maintenance and need to buy appliances, yard machinery, etc. So some areas have been hard on home ownership for a long time. | |
