IN | Multiple pioneer agronomists at a meeting on Thursday mentioned that rapid growth syndrome in corn when it was 85-100 a few weeks back caused the plant to grow faster than the tassel could. This pushed the top leaves to twist around the tassel as it was trying to grow through and now the tassel is having trouble extending out past the leaves. They didn’t seem concerned as they figured one good tassel can pollinate 1000 plants. They said sporadic kernel set would be possible but never hurt yield too much. I think they were trying to cover their asses a bit and it’s bigger than they like to think it is but I don’t think it’s a national issue that’s going to cause too much riff. If it caused half a bushel loss on the national yield I’d be surprised | |
