Subject: Installing an Ag Leader system in my Hagie STS12

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I was involved in a switch over that MIGHT shed some light on your situation. It is not your exact situation so it might only add to the confusion.

My situation involves two Hagie sprayers but my conversion involved Ag Leader components rather than Deere components. The first was an STS-10 which I used for several years but later traded in toward a somewhat newer STS-12. I believe my Hagie STS-12 is a model year 2011

I used Ag Leader modules and an Ag Leader display in both sprayers. The older STS-10 had been used with an Ag Leader by the previous owner so an Ag leader Master/Section adapter cable was present. It worked properly with the Original Hagie Master and 5 section boom switches.

When I traded in the STS-10, I removed the Master/Section adapter cable which was teed into the Hagie wiring at a connector labelled CHI-4. This is the cable that allowed me to use the original Hagie Master and Section switches with the Ag Leader system.

My plan was to install this adapter cable at the CHI-4 location on the STS-12. It mated but did not work properly. My observations seemed to agree with what you are finding. I was not getting the appropriate readings on the Ag Leader diagnostic screens as I tried various combinations of Master and Section switches.

A solution for me would have been to get a different Master/section adapter cable which would have agreed with the STS-12 wiring at the CHI-4 location.

Fortunately, I had both the wiring diagrams for the older STS-10 and the newer STS-12 Master/section switch adapter cables. By comparison I noticed that the Master Switch trigger wire is in a different location for the newer STS-12. Since the newer sprayer has more sections, Hagie may have been forced to move the Master line.

I was able to modify my old Master/section adapter cable to agree with the change needed for the newer sprayer. It was actually quite easy but would have been very difficult without the wiring diagrams. The newer Master/section switch adapter cable also showed a pull down resistor which I added. This has worked fine.

This might explain your situation. The adapter cable that you got from Ag Express might be correct for another Hagie model such as my old STS-10 but not your STS-12.

This is speculation on my part and I'm not suggesting blame on Ag Express or suggesting that you start cutting or moving wires but my experience shows that the Master/section valve adapter cables have changed with different models.

Here's another idea that may or may not pertain to you.

Since my STS-12 uses PWM control to control the rate and the STS-10 used a Servo valve, I wanted a way to guarantee that I could shut the spray pump OFF. To this end, I installed a DPDT lighted rocker switch in the wire leading to the PWM valve. This switch can be thought of as a "Pump Switch". This switch has a lighted indicator for one "half". I connected 12V to that "half" and ground. The other remaining terminals for the other "half" are connected to the PWM line going to the PWM valve for the pump.

This means that with the switch "ON", the indicator is lit and the PWM signal from the Ag Leader connects to the PWM valve and controls the pump speed as usual. With the switch "OFF", the indicator is not lit and the PWM signal (if any) from the Ag Leader is not connected to the PWM valve which means no oil flow and no pump movement. In normal spraying, the switch is left in the "ON" position but if the tank should run empty or any time we wish the pump to stop, we can just shut off this pump switch.

One last thought. You mention that the Master appears to work properly with a foot switch but the section switches do not come ON. Are your checking this with auto swath disabled? Having auto swath active for testing purposes can lead to confusion. BTDT.
