MOLINE, Ill., April 23 -- Deere & Co. reported Tuesday completion of a $187 million agricultural equipment sale to Ukraine, including the sale of 1,049 agricultural combine harvesters and related equipment to Ukragroprombirzha of Kiev. The deal represents Deere's single largest agricultural equipment sale ever.
The combines will be produced at the John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline, Ill., and will be shipped over the next 12 months. The Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) is providing loan guarantees to Ukraine for the transaction. The arranger and lender of the Ex-Im Bank-backed loan supporting the sale is Societe Generale. The combine model being shipped to Ukraine is the John Deere 9500 Maximizer, featuring a 3-speed hydrostatic transmission designed for the operator to match ground speed to field and harvest conditions for optimum performance. The grain tank holds 204 bushels of grain, which can be unloaded into a truck or wagon in the field in about 90 seconds. Deere, which had 1995 profits of $706 million on sales of $10.3 billion, said the machines will be used to harvest wheat, corn and sunflower. Stock of Deere was up 87.5 cents to $42.125 a share on the New York Stock Exchange.
