| It is common to have some chatter when raising the 3 point the first time after starting the tractor. That may be a concern if it does it all the time.
If you don't have the motor return hose set up to return the oil to the filter, It Will Not Run The Motor Correctly, no matter what condition your hyd system is in.
The farthest forward position of the lever is the float position. The forward/ extend position is slightly to the rear of float. This is the desired position to run a hyd motor because you then push the lever forward to float to stop the motor. This minimizes the shock to the motor by letting the motor coast to a stop.
You can reverse the hoses and run the motor by moving the lever back. Doing so, may be harder on the motor seals since you move the lever to the stop position rather than the float position. This may not harm the motor, because it depends on the speed and torque on the motor when it is stopped.
Your detent may be a little tighter in the rear position since it stays on better in that position. You can bungee cord it if you want, it won't hurt anything.
Did you try to turn the flow down some to see if the lever stayed engaged?
